On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the Department of Social Work and NSS (National Service Scheme) at HCIMT (Hill County Institute of Management and Technology) collaborated with several esteemed organizations: ARDSI (Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India) Kozhikode Chapter, DLSA (District Legal Services Authority) Kozhikode, IMHANS (Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences) Kozhikode, and the Tele Manas Project Kozhikode. Together, they organized a comprehensive program aimed at raising awareness about elder abuse and promoting elder rights in the community. The primary objective of the program was to educate the public, particularly caregivers, families, and community members, about the various forms of elder abuse, including physical, emotional, financial, and neglectful abuse. It sought to highlight the importance of respecting and protecting the rights of older adults, emphasizing their dignity and well-being. Activities planned for the day likely included informative sessions, workshops, and panel discussions involving experts from the collaborating organizations. These sessions would have focused on identifying signs of elder abuse, legal provisions for safeguarding elder rights, strategies for intervention and support, and promoting a culture of respect and care towards older adults. In addition to awareness-raising activities, the program may have included outreach initiatives to engage with elderly individuals directly. This could involve community visits, interactions with senior citizens, distributing informational materials, and facilitating discussions on issues related to elder abuse and protection.
