In a powerful demonstration of youth commitment to social welfare, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Holy Cross College, Calicut, successfully organized the “Life is Beautiful” anti-drug awareness campaign at Thusaragiri.
As part of a state-wide initiative launched by the Higher Education Department, the campaign aims to combat the rising menace of drug abuse and inspire the younger generation to choose a healthy, substance-free lifestyle. The event at Thusaragiri featured a variety of impactful activities, including:
-
Awareness Rally: Volunteers led a mass rally through the local community, chanting slogans and carrying placards to highlight the dangers of addiction.
-
Street Plays & Flash Mobs: Students used creative arts to engage the public, performing energetic street plays that depicted the beauty of a life lived free from drugs.
-
Door-to-Door Surveys: Taking the mission directly to the people, dedicated volunteers conducted surveys and distributed informative pamphlets to local families.
-
Anti-Drug Pledge: The drive concluded with a collective oath where students and community members reaffirmed their commitment to making Kerala a drug-free state.
The campaign was widely covered by leading regional news outlets, including Mathrubhumi, Malayala Manorama, and Madhyamam, which lauded the students’ initiative in promoting social responsibility.
This drive is just one of many steps the Holy Cross NSS Unit is taking to act as a driving force for a safer and greener future. By engaging with the local community at Thusaragiri, our volunteers continue to prove that change truly begins one doorstep at a time.
