Kozhikode: In a significant move to promote civic responsibility and environmental consciousness, the NSS Unit and Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Holy Cross College, Calicut, organized a comprehensive awareness campaign titled “Youth Stand for Green Election.”

The initiative was held in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Calicut University and the District Suchitwa Mission.

The campaign, driven by the message “Win in the election without defeating nature,” aimed to educate both the student body and the general public on the importance of eco-friendly voting practices.

  • Awareness Drive: Volunteers conducted extensive outreach programs within the college campus and at the Kozhikode New Bus Stand.

  • Public Engagement: Students interacted directly with passengers and the public, explaining the necessity of participating in the democratic process while minimizing environmental impact.

    • Reducing the use of plastic during electioneering.

    • Limiting the use of non-biodegradable posters and banners.

    • Responsible voting habits that prioritize sustainability.

  • Community Outreach: Students also extended their awareness efforts to local auto-stands and nearby commercial establishments to ensure a wider reach.

The formal session of the program featured a solemn pledge-taking ceremony. College Principal, Sr. Dr. Shaini George, administered the pledge to the students, emphasizing the dual duty of being an active citizen and a protector of the environment.
