Thiruvambadi, Kozhikode — In a vital step toward public health safety, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Holy Cross College, Kozhikode, partnered with the Thiruvambadi Family Health Center to launch the “Antibiotic-Literate Thiruvambadi” awareness campaign. The initiative aims to educate the local community on the responsible use of antibiotics and the growing global threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Promoting Health Literacy

The campaign was designed to transform Thiruvambadi into a community where residents are well-informed about medicine safety. Key highlights of the program included:

  • Official Launch: The campaign was inaugurated by the Thiruvambadi Panchayat President, Jithin Pallattu, who emphasized the importance of local government and student collaboration in health initiatives.

  • Expert Guidance: Health professionals, including Junior Health Inspector M. Suneer, provided technical insights into how the misuse of antibiotics leads to “superbugs,” making common infections harder to treat.

  • Community Outreach: Dedicated NSS volunteers conducted awareness sessions and distributed informative notices to local residents and shops, ensuring that the message of “antibiotic literacy” reached all sections of society.

A Commitment to Social Wellness

The program was presided over by the College Principal, Dr. Sr. Shiny George, and coordinated by NSS Program Officers Lijo Jose and Aswathy K.. By moving the classroom into the heart of the community, Holy Cross College continues to foster a sense of social responsibility among its students.

This initiative follows the college’s tradition of impactful community service, ranging from the “Life is Beautiful” anti-drug drive to the “Vayanamrutham” book donation project, proving that our students are dedicated to building a healthier, more informed Kerala.
